MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
It began as a dream, an idea, a vision over six years ago. It was a vision that grew out of a need. Our worship center was too small. There wasn’t enough space in the worship halls for those who wanted to worship. There weren’t enough classrooms for all the classes and Bible Studies that wanted to meet and grow in their Christian faith.
The vision became a drawing, an architect’s idea committed to paper. Committees started to meet. Fund raising began. In May, 2006, demolition of half of the old building started. In February, 2008 we moved into the completed Phase 1: two new chapels, five new classrooms, a multipurpose hall in the basement, offices and two flats.
As soon as we moved into Phase 1, work was started on Phase 2. The remaining wing of the old building was demolished, and construction began. Now, 20 months later, the dream has become a completed reality. During the month of October (2009), we began moving into the finished building. The entire completed building contains four worship halls, a Christian bookstore, a multipurpose hall, ten classrooms, storage areas, offices and flats for pastors. The biggest change for our church has been moving our offices from a villa into a beautiful suite of offices on the second floor of the new building. We can now expand our Christian Education ministry into all the new classrooms. And there is room to breathe. Our worship services will continue to meet in the same worship hall (the biggest one in the building), but we are using the basement hall and the new ground floor worship hall for overflow seating, served by closed circuit TV.
The scope, size and beauty of the new building far exceed our original dream. God’s provision to make it possible has been absolutely amazing! As I stand, looking up at the building, one verse of Scripture keeps running through my mind:
“The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” (Psalm 126:3)
