Our Construction Site
August 2008
Phase One is Complete
The
8th of February saw our greatest change in the construction of the
new facility. We finally began our first services in the new building. We had
endured a lot of pain and inconvenience that was caused by the construction and
yet marveling at God’s hand in solving several problems that at first seemed
insurmountable. We serve an awesome God and now seeing the end of Phase I anyone
can see His hands all over this new structure.
The Friday of these first services the contractor had already begun the demolition of the old building. Looking back, in most countries the age of the old building would still be a new building but God has blessed this Christian community with tremendous growth making it necessary for this new building.
Early problems encountered by the start of Phase II came when obtaining necessary permits were encountered. Delays were also caused by some modifications to the floor plan due to new municipality demands about building space usage. Another stumbling block was the escalating material prices. It would have been totally unfair to stick the contractor with these additional costs so many negotiations were done.
Phase Two is Under Way
Just
as in Phase I, testing of the ground needed to be accomplished and excavation
began with drilling the concrete piles deep into the earth. Then the large holes
in the ground were finally made and the formworks for the footers were started.
Site work at this stage is hampered by lack of storage space so the excavated
materials had to be piled on site and construction begun on each side of this
pile of earth. The machine then drills the hole and fills it with concrete. Then
the steel reinforcement rods are forced down into the concrete. When cured the
pressure tests are done. That is all done now.
The
first of August 2008, Phase II had several footer and foundation walls already
in place. The new building was above ground and work should be very evident from
here on. God has blessed us and I am sure that He will continue to watch over us
as this new facility being built to His Glory takes shape. The total building
will look the same on each side.
