Genesis Topics

2005

In Pastor Cam’s fall sermon series, we followed the lives of the patriarchs from the Book of Genesis.

As we focused on the life of Joseph, we continued to learn lessons, not only from these men of God, but also from what God did behind the scenes.

November 19

FORGIVE AS THE LORD FORGAVE YOU. Using Joseph's act of forgiving his brothers as a springboard, this message looks at the Biblical concept of forgiveness. What is it and how can we do it? We examine the Act of Forgiveness, the Fact of Forgiveness and the Feelings of Forgiveness.

November 5

Genesis 42-45: FAMILY REUNION. In this final message on the life of Joseph, we trace once again the sovereign plan of God for Joseph and his brothers and the development of the nation. In the process, we will explore three ways that God works. Which ways do we want him to work? Are there any ways we do not want him to work?

Genesis 40-41: HE PUT HIM IN CHARGE OF THE WHOLE LAND OF EGYPT. God’s plan unfolds as Joseph, following more disappointment, is promoted to second in command over the entire nation of Egypt. We learn lessons about God’s sovereignty and also about what it means to “humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.”

October 15

Genesis 37 & 39: WHAT AM I DOING IN THE PITS?  After a series of disasters, Joseph finds himself in prison in Egypt. What he does there and how he responds provides useful lessons for us when we find ourselves “in the pits.”

September sermons focused on Jacob: Heel-grasper, deceiver, prince with God. A conflicted and often contradictory character, what does Jacob have to teach us about the ancient paths?

October 8

Genesis 35: BACK TO BETHEL: Sometimes, in order to go forward, we have to go back. In Genesis 35, God calls Jacob to go back to Bethel, where he first experienced the presence of God. Is God calling you to return to your own personal Bethel?

October 1

Genesis 32: WRESTLING WITH GOD: Where do we turn in the crises of our lives? Jacob’s basic character flaw is revealed in this chapter. What can we learn from the mysterious wrestling match, and the new name that God gave Jacob?

September 24

Genesis 29-31: Where Is God When Life Gets Messy?  Jacob finds his relatives and acquires a family and great wealth. But along the way, life gets messy. Where is God? What is he doing? And what can we learn that will help us respond and learn the right lessons when our lives get messy?

September 17

Genesis 28:  When Family Faith Becomes Personal Faith: Far from home, the lonely Jacob lies down to sleep. When God appears to him in a dream, Jacob takes the first steps toward his family faith becoming personal faith. What are those steps? A look at Jacob’s experience will help us know whether our family faith has in fact become personal.

September 10

Genesis 27:  Jacob And Esau: “Two Nations Are In Your Womb.” A look at God's sovereignty in our lives.

September 3

Genesis 26:  Isaac: Like Father Like Son: Embarking on a continuing study of the lives of the patriarchs, this sermon looks at the life of Isaac in Genesis 26. The often-neglected “middle child” of the patriarchs, Isaac has much to teach us about the ancient path to true blessing.
