Pastor Joe Preached in the Easter Sun Rise Service at 6:00 a.m. When most people hear the word Nike, they think of shoes. However in the days that Jesus walked the earth, when people heard the word nike, shoes never even crossed their minds. If not shoes, then just what did cross their minds? Join us as we take a look at "Nike and the Resurrection."
This Friday was Baptism Day at ECC. In this message, Pastor Cam looks at 1 Corinthians 15:1-5, where Paul summarizes the Gospel message. He especially examines the three verbs which describe the Corinthians’ response to the Gospel, and applies it to those being baptized. It also serves as a good reminder for all of us to review our relationship to this message: By This Gospel You Are Saved!
This is the final message (To This End I Labor) in a 3-part series on the mission of ECC. In the sermon, Pastor Cam focuses on the second part of our goal to bring believers to maturity in Christ. With passages from Colossians and Ephesians, we see how passionate Paul is about this part of the church’s mission, and we also discover the two key ingredients that are essential to producing spiritual maturity.
It is almost time for the Annual Congregational Meeting. In this message, Pastor Cam is in “recruiting mode”, challenging the congregation to participate in 3 M’s: First the Meeting, then church Membership. But above all, he challenges all Christians to Join the Mission!
Pastor Cam and Esther Ruth have recently returned from a ministry trip to India in Kenya. During their trip, they visited and ministered alongside two faithful servants of God. In this message, Pastor Cam describes what these two modern day pastors have in common with Timothy and Epaphroditus in Philippians 2:19-30. In conclusion, Paul challenges us to “honor men like this,” but let’s not just honor them. Let us go on to become like them!
How well do you know the Christmas story? We read it every year. But do we really understand it? To find out, Pastor Cam starts this message (What Really Happened in Bethlehem?) with a quiz. The answers to the questions may surprise you as we take another look at the birth of Jesus from Luke 2.
This Friday, we celebrated the Lord’s Supper together. In this message, titled Unworthy But Forgiven, Pastor Cam looks at the familiar text in I Corinthians 11:17-34 and shares how two clues he discovered in the passage as a young pastor have forever changed the way he observes and serves Communion. Find out what they are.
God’s Role, My Role: As we embark on a new ministry year at ECC, Pastor Cam leads us in a study of I Corinthians 3 and 4, and a variety of images Paul uses to help us understand the role and responsibilities of a Christian worker as servant, farm worker, builder, steward.
How would you like a diet that guaranteed you, not weight loss, or weight gain, but happiness? That is what the psalmist offers us in Psalm 1. Of course it’s not a physical diet of food, but a spiritual diet of meditating on the Scriptures. Listen to this sermon (BE HAPPY) to see the wonderful promises that God makes to those who delight themselves in His Word.

This is the last sermon Pastor Cam preached before departing for 3 months of home leave in the U.S. In the message, he talks especially to those who will be leaving ECC during the summer and not returning. He challenges them to consider what kind of obedience and loyalty they will offer God in the next phases of their lives. As a parting gift he gives a motto to live by: Remember the Recabites! If that motto doesn’t ring with meaning for you, then you need to read/listen to this sermon.
We apologize that the sermon for March 28 will not be available on line. Instead, we are posting the sermon from the Easter Sunrise Service on March 23 entitled: It Feels Like Easter!
In Acts 10:34-43, Peter preached a clear, concise and complete Gospel sermon to the household of Cornelius. In his sermon, the events of Good Friday and Easter are clearly highlighted. In this message entitled Good News of Peace we see that the Gospel is a historical message, a theological message and finally a personal message.
Have you ever felt disappointed with God? Naomi did! This woman (whose story is told in the Old Testament book of Ruth) had a name which meant pleasant. But as she tells her friends, “Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara (bitter) for the Lord’s hand has gone out against me.” Maybe you’ve felt the same way. In this message (Call Me Bitter) we examine Naomi’s story, how she responded and how God worked to restore her to the place of blessing.
Do you have a sin problem? If you answer “No!” to that question, then you have an even bigger problem than the average person! Even as Christians, we all have a sin problem and that sin problem has a significant impact on our fellowship with God. In this message, “If We Say…” taken from I John 1:5-2:2, we look at three wrong responses to our sin problem and then examine two right responses which will lead us back to true fellowship with God.
Do you ever have trouble “getting into the Christmas spirit?” We all have our unique recipe of ingredients that we like to have in place to enable us to “feel Christmas.” But what happens when some of the vital ingredients are missing? Wrong weather, no family around, working on Christmas day? Paul tells us that Thinking Christmas precedes feeling Christmas. In this message we examine Paul’s theology of Christmas. If we understand the significance of the event we are celebrating, we can celebrate Christmas anywhere!
Pastor Joseph Page preached from Matthew 1 highlighting how God shows us His Sovereign Splendor and His Majestic Meekness in this Christmas passage.
On November 9, many of the church members were away at the annual Family Retreat, so Pastor Cam took a break from the series on Philippians to preach a message on the life of Barnabas, entitled Encourage One Another. Find out in this message how this man exemplified and lived out the nickname given to him by the apostles, and at the same time learn what real Christian encouragement is and how it differs from what the world calls “encouragement.”
Pastor Joe Page challenged us to view life and ministry through the perspective of Peter and how he put Jesus first. Intriguing thoughts to motivate us to the life God intends. This sermon titled Christ Alone is based on a variety of scriptures.
We are standing on the threshold of a new church and ministry year. The tasks and challenges facing us this year are many. What will it take to face them successfully? In I Thessalonians 2:1, Paul looks back at his time in Thessalonica and says, “Our visit to you was not a failure.” In this message, entitled With the Help of Our God, we will search Paul’s description of his ministry to the Thessalonians. What were the ingredients of his ministry that led to his being able to make this statement? What can we learn from him so that we will be able to say the same thing at the end of this year?
Lord, I Have Another Problem! In this second sermon from the life of Hezekiah (taken from Isaiah 38-39) we find Hezekiah facing another problem. As we ponder Hezekiah’s prayer and the outcome, we come away with five principles to meditate on, including even the “perils of answered prayer.”
LORD, I HAVE A PROBLEM! That is the title of this sermon. We all have problems, don’t we? Life is full of them. They come in all shapes and sizes. In this story, we examine Isaiah 36-37. In this text, King Hezekiah faced a giant problem. What did he do about his problem and what can we learn that will help us face the problems in our lives, whether they be large or small?
Pastor Benjie Masiglat of the Filipino Congregation brought a message from Acts 17:1-9, challenging us to be World Changers.
The people of Judah were great boasters. In Jeremiah 9:23-24, the prophet Jeremiah takes them to task. Only he doesn’t rebuke them for boasting, but rather for boasting about the wrong things. In this message, entitled Something Worth Shouting About, we find that the list of things the Jews took pride in is amazingly contemporary. What are the things the world finds to shout about? And what is the one thing in life that is truly worth shouting about? Find out in this message.
On this date (June 1) the church recognized and expressed its appreciation to all the volunteers who have served so faithfully during the year. In his message, Tips on Improving Your Serve, Pastor Cam mixes metaphors and uses the components of a good golf swing and 1 Peter 4:7-11 to draw lessons for effective Christian service.
In this message we took a break from our series in the Old Testament to give a review and update on our ongoing Building Project. As we enter the final few months of the project, Pastor Cam shared both A Challenge from the Lord and A Question for the Lord.
In his message based on 1 Corinthians 9:24, Pastor Joe expounds on what our motivation should be in living our Christian lives here on earth. There are times when discouragement seeps in, exhaustion takes its toll and we are just about ready to give up. But stay on course. Heavenly rewards that bring honor and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ are promised to those who are Running to Win!
Did you ever face a giant? Giants come in different forms and we all face them from time to time. But how do we fight them? In this message, titled simply, How To Fight a Giant, we go to the most famous giant story in the Bible, the story of David and Goliath in I Samuel 17 to take some lessons. We come away with a list of 4 “Dos” and 4 “Don’ts” for fighting the giants in our lives.
It took incredible effort for a crucifixion victim to speak as he hung on the cross. Yet the Scriptures record seven sayings spoken by Jesus during those awful hours. In this Good Friday sermon, titled Final Words, we meditate on these seven sayings and glean truth about Jesus’ character and the meaning of what happened on the cross that day.
As we prepare to remember the climactic events of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we look at Luke 22 and Jesus’ institution of the Lord’s Table. Building on the links with the Passover Feast, we examine the parallels between the Passover lamb of the Old Testament and Jesus as our Passover Lamb in a message titled The Lamb That Was Slain.
Pastor Joe Page presented a series of five scenes of worship from the book of Revelation to preview what our worship in heaven will be like.
This week we had the treat of hearing the Chairman of the Church Board, Mr. Anwar Sawaya preach on The Church: the Community of God’s Covenant People. Mr. Sawaya outlined the nature of Covenant and how it shapes the form of community within the church body; challenging us to live out our faith in this New Testament model, making our church a vibrant presence in the world.
Pastor Joe led us through Old and New Testament scriptures to show how we are Fully Chosen through the marvelous workings of God.
Pastor Joe spoke about First Christmas Faith demonstrated in the lives of Mary and Joseph. Explore in this message how we can have this same kind of first Christmas faith.
Following a baptism service, Pastor Joe preached on Responding to God's Passion. God is passionate about His Glory, and Pastor Joe explores three ways that God expresses his Glory and how we can actively respond to His Passion.
This week, we took a break from our ongoing series on the book Exodus, because many of our members were away at our Family Retreat. Instead we look at the life of David, and especially the phrase God used to describe him: A Man After God’s Own Heart. We know that this describes inner quality (“man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart”) but exactly what heart qualities does God look for? In this sermon, Pastor Cam looks at a list of six qualities that set David apart.
In this sermon entitled UNWORTHY BUT IN A WORTHY MANNER, Pastor Cam admits to not liking Communion Services when he was growing up. They left him feeling guilty and rather depressed. But a careful examination of I Corinthians 11:17-34 changed his perspective. What did he discover? Find out as you read/listen to this sermon.
On the brink of beginning a new school and church ministry year, we take a look at some of the challenges facing us as a church. There is rough, uneven ground ahead. How will we construct a platform for effective ministry? Using the model of a three-legged stool, Ephesians 4:16 gives us three ingredients that will enable us to not only survive but make this a year of Growing Up, Growing Strong.
Pastor Joe Page celebrated communion with a stirring portrayal of the contrast between The Goodness of Man and the Cross of Christ. We see that Man indeed has no goodness but the cross has the answer that is sufficient for our dilemma.
Today, we celebrated the baptism of 8 people. What have these people being baptized discovered? Some might say that they have found religion. But the words of the Apostle Paul tell a different story. Taken from Philippians 3:1-9, in this message we find that instead of finding religion on the road to Damascus, he lost his religion in exchange for a relationship with Jesus Christ. Religion or Relationship? What will your choice be?
In this sermon, from May 5, entitled “With the Help of Our God” we review key principles from some of the great building projects of the Bible. As we see the progress on our own building project moving forward, what are the perspectives we need to keep in mind and the principles we need to apply as we participate in God’s work?
How well do we really know the Christmas story? In this message, “What Really Happened in Bethlehem?"; we examine several presuppositions regarding the events of the first Christmas to see if they are born out in the text or Biblical culture. But most importantly, we conclude that it is not so much the how, when or where of Christmas, but rather the WHO that really marks the significance of our celebrations.
Pastor Joe filled the pulpit and preached on When God Surveys the Cross. When we survey the cross we see God's rich blessings for us. What does God see when he surveys it?
This message was delivered to correspond with a baptism service. Do you want to be USELESS OR USEFUL in your Christian life? We all have a deep longing to be useful, to make a difference, and to have an impact. 2 Peter 1:8-9 gives us a wonderful promise to cling to. If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. What qualities is Peter talking about? How do they ensure that we will be productive in our Christian lives? And if we have become stagnate and unproductive, how can we diagnose the problem and get the growth process going again?
March 27, 2005 - Easter Sunrise
IT’S OPEN!!! When the women went to the tomb on Easter morning, they found the tomb was open. The stone had been rolled away. But in this message from Luke 24, we find that the tomb wasn’t the only thing that was opened on Easter morning…
“ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES” In this Good Friday message, we look at I Corinthians 15:3-4 and the phrase in those verses, “according to the Scriptures”. Which Scriptures was Paul referring to when he wrote this passage? After answering that question, we then look at 8 specific prophecies from Isaiah 53 that were fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Truly, all the events of Good Friday and Easter happened as prophesied “according to the Scriptures.”
WHAT’S THE BABY’S NAME? In this Christmas sermon, we look at the seven names or titles which were announced for the Baby who was born in Bethlehem. We discover that Christians have a lot to celebrate at Christmas.
BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED. For the baptism service (16 people were baptized!) we looked at I Corinthians 15:1-5, and Paul's challenge to receive the Gospel, take our stand on the Gospel and hold firmly to the Gospel.
JESUS IS BUILDING HIS CHURCH. Pastor Joe Page uses selected passages from the Book of Acts and incidents from his recent visits to Turkey and Bulgaria to illustrate how Jesus is continuing to build his church today, and how we can be a part.
